Writing with the pen name Dr. Seuss, Ted published over 40 children’s books and helped produce a number of film and television programs. His most celebrated books include The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, One fish two fish red fish blue fish, Horton Hatches the Egg, Horton Hears a Who!, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. Dr. Seuss’s honors include two Academy Awards, two Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal, and the Pulitzer Prize.
In 1986, Dr. Seuss visited Springfield. He greeted fans on Mulberry Street, not far from his Fairfield Street home. It was his last visit. Theodor Geisel passed away at the age of 87 on September 24, 1991, in La Jolla, California.
