Right across from Ted’s high school was the city’s central library, a place that Ted loved to visit. Due to the growth of the city, a new library building was constructed and opened in 1912, when Ted was eight years old. After school Ted would explore the stacks of this enormous library. When Dr. Seuss returned to Springfield for the last time in 1986 he commented that this one of his favorite places when he was growing up.
